Massacre of the Innocence
Georgie Porgie threw an orgy
     just outside L.A.,
where Jack Be Nimble grabbed his thimble,
     outing him as gay...
Little Jack Horner bought Time Warner
     before the bubble burst,
though Jumping Jack Flash saw the crash
     and liquidated first...
Jack said Jill was taking the Pill
     to ward off impregnation;
the Three Blind Mice have lobbied twice
     for victim's compensation...
Little Miss Muffet had her tuffet
     liposuctioned out,
and Little Bo Peep married a creep;
     lamb chops gave him gout...
Jack Sprat's wife went under the knife
     for Lap-Band surgery,
then Third Little Pig struck it big
     on reality TV...
Old King Cole's gone on the dole,
     exposed as a pretender;
while Wee Wil

Rain
I wrote on my arms during class. Neat print on one arm, clumsy capitals on the other. My teacher droned on and on and on and on about economics and supply and demand and all manner of things I cared little for, but the class was required and I had to be there anyway. Black pen spelling out sentiments I never saw fit to voice, spiraling round and round and crowding in until the lines of text began to cross and I put the pen down with just the barest click. I had sleeves now, sleeves of ink that likely looked like fishnets from far away. Idly, I contemplate getting tattoos all up and down my arms. Black lines only, abstract shapes that I can color in myself; a living paint-by-numbers.
The bell rang, and I jumped. The class filtered out, surge trailing to trickle to splutter, and the teacher followed. I waited until she was out of sight before I slipped away. Down the hall and down one flight, two, out the door and into the grey, grey world.
Rain. Cold and soft. I pulled a small dustpan f

Yes, I Have a Penis
Yes, I Have A Penis
Do not assume (if I hold the door for you),
that I am making a statement
about your inabilities
to open the door for yourself.
If you hold it for me,
I'll say 'thankyou'.
Do not assume (if I pay for the meal),
that I am underestimating
your earning capacity
as a woman.
If you invite me out for a meal,
you're paying.
Do not assume (if I defend your rights),
that I am belittling
the attempts that you have made
to defend your rights yourself.
If you defend my rights,
I'll consider you human.

Greg Heston Hates Your Guts
I still remember how
Those large brown eyes
Widened in innocent disbelief,
Laced effortlessly with immature cynicism
As it seemed strange to you
The way the elastic of America
Seemed slack in comparison
To the taught to the degree of snapping elastic of Israel
Each fiber of your being seemed
Wrapped in tallit strings tied in
Strange knots, binding you
To simple patriotism
That you never questioned
And yet never wanted to,
You could not fathom Greg Heston,
Or why I questioned the wars of the president I did not
Vote for yet was forced to call my own
Or why anyone bearing the
Shield of David could bear
To question the pain inflicted
On disconnected others
Your stomach stayed stagnant
At the thought of starvation in Africa,
Your eyes did not burn at the thought of explosions
In a sky that was not yours
Your lips did not so much as whimper
But spewed justification of actions
Wrought with blood of innocents
As government officials sat on velvet cushions
To you, patriotism is does not see.

Heart
“May I…try something?”
A raised eyebrow.
“What do you intend to try?”
“Humour me.”
A tentative hand, fingers not quite together.  Breaching a gap far less than an arm’s length.  Fingertips meeting rough cloth.  Palm flat, pressing harder.  And a gentle thud, hard at first to find, and a pattern emerging.  A smile.
“Thanks.”
“What was that about?”
“Just wanted to make sure you’re real.”
“Why wouldn’t I be?”
A giggle, cracking at the end into near-hysteria.  Wind rustling through the branches of a tree.  Creaking limbs.  Starlit night and the chirping of crickets.
“Are you going to go away again?”
“Not for long.”
“You said that last time.”
“And I meant it.  Things don’t always play out the way you want them to.”
Cool touch on a cooler forehead

my camera on,
and it's already gone. <3
